Walking in Beauty, A Navajo Prayer

How often do you pause to experience something beautiful? When you are focused on something beautiful, you are in appreciation, which creates a connection to your higher self, your intuition, inner peace, God, Goddess, and so on.

This Navajo Prayer reminds us that beauty (connection to divine) is all around us, even as we walk through our everyday lives. Here are a couple of the many versions of this prayer.

Closing Prayer from the Navajo Way Blessing Ceremony
In beauty I walk
With beauty before me I walk
With beauty behind me I walk
With beauty above me I walk
With beauty around me I walk
It has become beauty again
It has become beauty again
It has become beauty again
It has become beauty again

Walking In Beauty (Blessing)
Today I will walk out, today everything unnecessary will leave me,
I will be as I was before, I will have a cool breeze over my body.
I will have a light body, I will be happy forever,
nothing will hinder me.
I walk with beauty before me. I walk with beauty behind me.
I walk with beauty below me. I walk with beauty above me.
I walk with beauty around me. My words will be beautiful.

In beauty all day long may I walk.
Through the returning seasons, may I walk.
On the trail marked with pollen may I walk.
With dew about my feet, may I walk.

With beauty before me may I walk.
With beauty behind me may I walk.
With beauty below me may I walk.
With beauty above me may I walk.
With beauty all around me may I walk.

In old age wandering on a trail of beauty, lively, may I walk.
In old age wandering on a trail of beauty, living again, may I walk.
My words will be beautiful.

  2. in 1991 I visited a navajo reservation and found a poster with the prayer 'in beauty I walk' on it... it immediately talked to me.. I understood. it has been accompanying me ever since. I moved several times in the meantime, it was always the first thing I'd hang on my wall. over the years I have learned always to walk in beauty, cause there is beauty around me, above me, before me, behind me and beside me. the most powerful words for me. thank you :)

  3. So beautiful. These words lift me up and present me to the the light within. I find the heart sing a song harmonious to the ears, ringing with joy. May the earth be filled with beings (BE-IN-G's) who walk with beauty all around them! And so it is.
